PROPER ATTIRE
Please be sure your child has appropriate clothing, as children will be spending extended periods of time outdoors. Outdoor play will be canceled due to precipitation, icy ground conditions, temperatures below 20, or excessive wind or heat.  In the summer months, please be sure your child is wearing sunscreen. *
CHANGE IN PICK-UP ROUTINE
Change in transportation or pick up person will only be allowed if the student brings a written note from their parent or guardian.  Please be sure your pick up list is up-to-date, any changes should be given to the Site Coordinator. *
POSSESSIONS FROM HOME
The Wakefield Academy Program asks that any personal possessions from home such as but not limited to toys, games, electronics (including cell phones which must remain put away and off at all times), balls, dolls, stuffed animals or trading cards remain at home. *
ABSENCES
In the event the student cannot attend on a scheduled day, the parent or guardian should supply a written note or email to the  Site Coordinator explaining the absence prior to the day of absence. If the student does not attend school due to illness, please request on the absentee line that in addition to the school's main office, they let the Wakefield Academy staff know.   **Please Note: There are no refunds or credits unless it is Covid-19 related or a long illness.** *
SCHOOL CLOSINGS AND DELAYED START
During the regular school year, Wakefield Academy will only be open when the Wakefield Public Schools are in session. Wakefield Academy will be closed when school is canceled and on full-day Professional Development days for staff. The only exceptions to this are vacation programs and other special programs. In the case of a delayed start for the regular school day, the Academy will be delayed by the same amount of time. *
HEALTH POLICY
All children enrolled in the Wakefield Academy Programs must satisfy the minimum immunization and routine physical examination requirements in accordance with Massachusetts Public Health Requirements. Documentation of the above must be on file at the child’s school office. *
ACCIDENT OR ACUTE ILLNESS
In the event of an accident or acute illness, every effort will be made to notify the child’s parents prior to treatment. If an emergency situation requires, 911 will be called and the child will be transported to the hospital by ambulance. If your child suffered an injury or has an illness that may impact their ability to participate in certain activities, parents are required to inform Academy staff of any limitations. *
DISCIPLINE POLICY
The expectations for conduct and behavior while attending the Wakefield Academy are consistent with those of the Wakefield Public Schools. The Site Coordinators will go over all program expectations with students at the beginning of the school year and on an as needed basis. Parents should also review proper school conduct with their child at home. The children and staff are asked to treat each other with respect, acceptance, kindness, and consideration. Students will be given reminders and redirection to encourage positive behavior. When a student is disruptive or needs time to regain self-control, he or she will be removed from the group. In the event a student’s behavior fails to follow these guidelines, or if a student’s behavior poses a threat to anyone’s safety in the program, parents will be consulted and the appropriate action to be taken per the expectations of the Wakefield Public Schools. Any students that cause physical or emotional harm, or threaten physical or emotional harm on another student or staff member are subject to suspension. The Director reserves the right to suspend or dismiss any student from participation in the program if these guidelines are not met. There will be no refund in this case. *
SUPPORT SERVICES
Wakefield Academy and its staff will work to accommodate students with specific academic, developmental, and social/emotional needs as outlined by their Individualized Education Program.  Specific supports within Wakefield Academy may look different than during the regular school day.  If parents have specific questions or concerns about how Wakefield Academy is able to accommodate their child’s Special Education needs, they should contact the Director.  Parents are encouraged to share strategies to most effectively support their child with Academy staff.   *
LATE PICK-UP FEE
The Afternoon Program closes at 6:00 p.m. at Elementary and Galvin MS (5:00pm Doyle program only).  There will be a $15.00 surcharge for each ten-minute increment beyond the closing time or fraction thereof. The fee should be paid by check payable to Wakefield Academy at pick up or at the next scheduled day.  Students that are picked up late will not be allowed to return to the program until the late fee has been paid.  Repeated late pick-ups will result in dismissal from the program without a refund.  Parents/Guardians are encouraged to make alternative arrangements in the event of a problem/delay and must list a backup pick-up person in case they are running late. *
