DAY 5

STUDENT INFORMATION

*APRIL is AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH!  Best Buddies would like to remind you that “Some of the most wonderful people are the ones who don't fit into boxes.” Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, speech and nonverbal communication, and/or repetitive behaviors and strong interest areas. An estimated 1 in 36 children in the United States today can be categorized as falling on the Autism Spectrum. Autism is a spectrum of unique! Some of our world's leaders, innovators, actors and athletes fall on the Autism Spectrum, including Elon Musk and Greta Thernburg. It is surmised that some influential people in history who were also on the Autism Spectrum included Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, and Mozart. For further information, please check out autismspeaks.org

*REMINDER: Wednesday, April 3rd is an Early Release Day for students. Students will be dismissed at 11:20.

*On Monday, April 8th, don't miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness a Solar Eclipse. Students and staff will all be given a pair of eclipse glasses and we invite everyone to the Walton Field from 2:16 pm-3:45 pm for a space-themed party!  This is sure to be an out-of-this-world time!

*The Youth Action Team will be meeting next Wednesday, April 10th.  If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Tarness.

*Through April 10th, any 8th grade student who celebrates Ramadan is invited to have a drink free/food free lunch break in room 337. You are welcome to bring a friend with you as well.

PARENT INFORMATION

*Review of Dismissal Procedures: If you should need to dismiss your student during the school day, please send your child in with a note, and have them report to the main office. We will log them in our dismissal book and give them a pass. This will help to alleviate disruptions to classrooms during teaching time. You can still email the teachers, however if that is all you do it may not be transferred to the main office. Also, if you just email the main office staff or Administration, due to the volume of traffic in the office in the morning, an email may not be seen right away. Parents/Guardians MUST come to the main office to sign their child out. Students cannot just walk out on their own. Thank you for your understanding.

*A gentle reminder,  for the safety of all staff and students, parents should not be exiting through the parking lot after dropping children off coming from North Avenue. Parents need to exit the parking lot onto Armory Street. Thank you for your cooperation.

*Students should not be entering the building before 7 am as there is no supervision. If your child attends jazz band, math club, or has made arrangements to meet a teacher those would be the only exceptions for entering the building early.

TODAY’S LUNCH: Breakfast for Lunch - French Toast, Sausage Patty, Hash Browns, and Fruit

TUESDAY'S  LUNCH: Chicken Parmesan on an IGGY’S Ciabatta, Chips, and Fruit
