DAY 6

STUDENT INFORMATION

*The Youth Action Team is back this year.  Members work on different projects and school-wide events to help improve the Galvin community. This club is open to all 7th and 8th graders.  New and former members are welcome to attend.   If you are interested in learning more about the Youth Action Team, the first meeting of the year is on Wednesday, October 4th at 2:30 in room 233.  Snacks will be provided.  If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Tarness.

*Do you want to join an inclusive friendship club that promotes our core values of ACCEPTANCE and RELATIONSHIPS? Consider investing your time in Best Buddies, an international organization that promotes connections between people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. By joining, you will have the opportunity to participate in both in-school and after-school activities, such as crafts and games, and will also be promoting an inclusive culture here at Galvin Middle School. Best Buddies will meet once per month directly after school. If you have any questions or would like more information about how to sign up, please see Ms. Hersman in the 3rd floor student support hallway or Ms. Riley in Room 104. The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 10th.

*Are you interested in meeting other Lower House Galvin students who have a passion for reading and discussing social justice topics? If so, we'd love to have you join our book club. We will start meeting after school on Mondays in mid-October. If this sounds fun to you, please stop by room 103 or email Ms. Langlois for an invite to our Classroom.

*GMS Jazz Band Auditions will take place on October 17th and 19th. Students in grades 6, 7, 8 can sign up on this google form. Audition music can be obtained by emailing Mr. Morel.

*I'd like to give a shout out to two students from last year who cleaned up my classroom and put up all the chairs last week while I was absent for the SS PD in Marlborough. TJ Tryon and Dylan Lowry took the time to clean up the room and put up all the chairs and left me a funny note. They also put up the chairs pretty much every day last year.

* If you have misplaced a lunch box, water bottle, or an article of clothing, please check the cafeteria for missing items.

PARENT INFORMATION

*Looking for new WEF volunteers!!!  WEF (Wakefield Educational Foundation) is hosting an informational session for community members interested in becoming volunteers on Wed, Oct 11 from 6:30-7 pm.  The meeting is being held at the High School, conference rooms A and B located in the main office suite.  Enter the building at the Savings Bank Theater entrance.  We hope to see you there!  Please email carymazzone@gmail.com or melissa.holmes@rcn.com with any questions.

*Review of Dismissal Procedures: If you should need to dismiss your student during the school day, please send your child in with a note, and have them report to the main office. We will log them in our dismissal book and give them a pass. This will help to alleviate disruptions to classrooms during teaching time. You can still email the teachers, however if that is all you do it may not be transferred to the main office. Also, if you just email the main office staff or Administration, due to the volume of traffic in the office in the morning, an email may not be seen right away. Parents/Guardians MUST come to the main office to sign their child out. Students cannot just walk out on their own. Thank you for your understanding.

*A gentle reminder, for the safety of all staff and students, parents should not be exiting through the parking lot after dropping children off coming from North Avenue. Parents need to exit the parking lot onto Armory Street. Thank you for your cooperation.
